what’s with the brakeless thing?
brakeless is the moniker used for the collection of visual works by Benny Pinto, a digital experience design leader and analog photographer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
brakeless centers on the juxtaposition of accelerated chaos and focused control. It is a non-stop attitude that never loses sight of purpose.
The name comes from my life spent riding bicycles that purposefully didn’t have traditional braking systems. That journey started from riding BMX when I was young to getting a little older and riding fixed gear.
Stripping away conventional means of braking requires the rider to connect with the bike. It allows them to use their momentum, speed, and environment to express themselves creatively, while avoiding collisions. The voluntary surrender of control leads to the development of increased control. I channel this ethos into my creative pursuits. These days, my bikes look a little different, but the philosophy is the same.

In design I try to create with purpose and to slow down intentionally. This same philosophy of thoughtfulness translates to shooting film for me.
